The quest Silent as the Grave in Divinity: Original Sin 2 presents players with one of the most haunting side stories found on Bloodmoon Island. Taking place within the eerie underground vaults of Act 2, this mission involves resolving the tragic fate of a possessed child and her loyal companion. Navigating the hidden mechanisms and moral choices requires preparation, key character traits, and strategic dialogue decisions.
Locating and Opening the Vault
To begin this quest, your party must journey to Bloodmoon Island during the Reaper's Coast chapter. Unlocking the hidden vault entrance beneath the statue requires a character with the Scholar tag who has read the book titled The Taming of the Holy Fire. Once the hymnal is sung at the statue, the secret passage opens, granting access to the underground chamber.
Inside the vault, you will encounter the spirit of Brother Morgan guarding the inner threshold. To open the inner door, you must convince Brother Morgan to step aside or deal with his spirit directly. Succeeding in a persuasion check ensures safe passage into the room where the possessed child remains bound.
Dealing with Buttons and Breaking the Pillars
Upon stepping inside, you will discover a catatonic girl held in place by magical chains connected to four stone pillars. Her undead cat, Buttons, guards her fiercely and will prevent anyone from approaching. Players can use high persuasion stats to convince Buttons to accept help, or they may choose to defeat the undead feline in combat.
After managing the cat, your party must destroy the four binding pillars surrounding the child. Striking these structures shatters the magical restraints keeping her trapped. Once the pillars are down, you can interact directly with the girl to determine the next step of her journey.
Rescuing the Child and Quest Conclusion
Speaking to the child initiates a critical dialogue sequence requiring high persuasion checks in Strength, Wits, or Memory. Successfully persuading her allows you to send her safely to the Lady Vengeance, where she can rest away from immediate danger. In the Definitive Edition, players can follow up on her storyline later in Arx to complete her full narrative arc.
Returning to Brother Morgan after securing the child allows you to finalize your conversation and claim your rewards. Successfully resolving the situation grants valuable experience points and completes the vault's objective. Taking care during dialogue ensures your party maximizes rewards while securing the best possible outcome for the child.
